Just as our loved one is completely falling apart is the moment that they need to trust us the most, particularly if we need to put some sort of legal “stewardship” in place to help deal with doctors. Just as our loved one is in total state of denial, due to anosognosia, we need to be able to revoke their ability to manage their own care. Just as our loved one is the least rational, the least aware, and totally overcome by this terrible illness, we often need to convince them to give away their rights so we can help.
It is a near herculean task for caregivers, and we are often totally on our own to figure out what is the best path forward, with virtually no help from the mental health professionals.
This 30-minute memoir explores this topic, with Chuck & Jody Geisel, and how they navigated these waters for their loved one.
